Luxury Kitchen Cost Guide South Africa
Updated 7 July 2026 · By The Kitchen Affair atelier · 12 minute read
A luxury kitchen in South Africa can range from approximately R150,000 for a premium refresh to R3 million or more for a fully bespoke architectural kitchen with premium imported appliances, cabinetry, surfaces, lighting and specialist installation. The final investment depends on size, specification, materials, appliance selection, installation complexity and design scope.
These ranges are provided as an indicative planning guide and should not be treated as a formal quotation. All final pricing remains P.O.A and is confirmed through consultation.

Where projects tend to live.
Premium refresh
R150,000 – R350,000+
For appliance upgrades, selected finishes, smaller cabinetry improvements and a limited installation scope. Often the right beginning: one or two exceptional instruments — a coffee system, a steam oven, refrigeration — inside a kitchen whose bones are already good.
High-end kitchen renovation
R350,000 – R750,000+
New cabinetry, premium finishes, selected luxury appliances, improved storage and lighting, professionally installed. The room keeps its footprint; almost everything within it is reconsidered.
Luxury kitchen project
R750,000 – R1.5 million+
Premium cabinetry, fully integrated appliances, stone surfaces, coffee systems, refrigeration and wine storage, layered lighting and professional installation — a complete composition, designed as one.
Architectural luxury kitchen
R1.5 million – R3 million+
Bespoke design and imported appliances across large open-plan spaces: premium surfaces, specialist installation, and a kitchen conceived together with the interior architecture around it.
Ultra-luxury bespoke project
R3 million+
Fully custom kitchens built around imported brands and multiple appliance categories — wine, coffee and entertaining zones, architectural detailing, and complex project coordination from first drawing to final calibration.
Bands overlap by design — a compact kitchen in an exceptional specification can sit above a large kitchen in a modest one. Treat them as planning territory, not price tags.

Cabinetry & joinery
Usually the largest single line. Imported European systems, bespoke local joinery, veneer and lacquer selections, and internal fittings can each move the investment by hundreds of thousands of rand.
Appliances
A considered suite — cooking, cooling, dishwashing, coffee — from the great European houses typically represents 25–40% of a luxury kitchen. Integration and ventilation choices matter as much as the badges.
Countertops & surfaces
Natural stone, porcelain slab and engineered surfaces differ widely in material and fabrication cost. Book-matched marble or full-height stone cladding is a different investment to a single worked slab.
Installation & labour
Precision installation is a craft. Millimetre-level cabinetry alignment, appliance commissioning and stone templating are specialist work, priced accordingly — and worth every rand.
Plumbing & electrical
Moving services, dedicated circuits for professional appliances, water filtration and gas certification sit beneath the surface of the budget — invisible in photographs, essential to the result.
Lighting
Layered lighting — task, ambient, and the lines of warm light that stage a kitchen like a gallery — involves design time, drivers and controls, not just fittings.
Coffee systems
Built-in, plumbed coffee machines and their supporting drawers and refrigeration form their own small category, from focused single units to full barista walls.
Refrigeration & wine storage
Integrated column refrigeration and dedicated wine climate cabinets are among the most significant appliance decisions — and among the most rewarding daily luxuries.
Motion systems & hardware
The hush of a drawer, two hundred times a day. Premium motion systems, servo-assisted lift doors and interior organisation are quiet costs with a loud effect on how a kitchen feels.
Design & project coordination
Bespoke design, technical drawings, and the coordination of trades, imports and installation timelines carry professional fees — the difference between a collection of products and a finished room.
Why luxury kitchens are usually P.O.A.
Nothing in a luxury kitchen is generic. Cabinetry is made to your walls, appliance suites are configured to your cooking, surfaces are priced by the slab, and installation depends entirely on the site. A price list would have to either average away everything that makes your project yours, or quietly mislead you.
P.O.A — price on application — is not evasion; it is precision. It means the number you eventually receive is real: specified, configured, and installable, rather than a starting figure that grows.
This guide exists so that P.O.A never has to mean unknown. You should walk into a consultation knowing the territory — and walk out knowing your project.
Plan backwards from the life you want.
- 01
Choose your territory
Find the band that matches your ambition for the room — not the one that matches your fear of the number.
- 02
Weight what matters
Decide where you refuse to compromise — coffee, wine, cooking, quiet — and let the rest be sensible.
- 03
Test it in conversation
Bring the band to a consultation. An hour with a senior consultant turns territory into an actual, specified picture.
Earlier than feels natural.
The most expensive words in a kitchen project are “we should have thought of that earlier.” Services, ventilation and appliance apertures are decided long before cabinetry is ordered — so the ideal moment to talk is while your plans are still soft: at sketch design for a build, or before demolition for a renovation.
If you are further along, come anyway. Every consultation is complimentary, private and without obligation — reserve a time in the diary or browse the houses we curate first.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a luxury kitchen cost in South Africa?
As an indicative planning range: from approximately R150,000 for a premium refresh, R350,000 to R750,000 for a high-end renovation, R750,000 to R1.5 million for a full luxury kitchen project, R1.5 million to R3 million for an architectural luxury kitchen, and R3 million or more for fully bespoke ultra-luxury projects. The final investment depends on size, specification, materials, appliance selection, installation complexity and design scope, and is always confirmed through consultation.
Why don’t luxury kitchen brands publish prices?
Because no two projects are alike. Cabinetry is made to measure, appliance suites are configured to the room and the cook, surfaces are priced by slab and fabrication, and installation depends on the site. A published price would either mislead or limit the design. Everything at The Kitchen Affair is P.O.A — price on application — confirmed after a consultation.
What is the single biggest driver of cost?
Usually cabinetry and joinery, followed closely by the appliance suite. Together they typically account for well over half of a luxury kitchen investment. Size matters less than specification: a compact kitchen in an exceptional specification can exceed a large kitchen in a modest one.
Do these ranges include appliances?
Yes — each band assumes a complete project, including appliances appropriate to that level, cabinetry, surfaces, installation and coordination. A band can shift if one element is unusually weighted, for example an extensive wine room or a full outdoor kitchen.
Can a project be phased?
Often, yes. Many clients begin with appliances and services planned for the full vision, then complete cabinetry and surfaces in a later phase. Planning the end state first is what makes phasing work — which is exactly what a consultation is for.
How long does a luxury kitchen project take?
A refresh can be measured in weeks. A full luxury or architectural kitchen typically runs three to nine months from design to commissioning, driven mainly by cabinetry manufacture and appliance import lead times. Early appliance selection protects the timeline.
Is the consultation really complimentary?
Yes. Every consultation — virtual, in the atelier, or on site — is complimentary and without obligation. It exists to give you an honest, specific picture of what your project would involve before you commit to anything.
